Viana do Castelo, Basilica Santa Luzia, north facade
Portugal

The Basilica, a temple-monument, is one of the attractions of Viana do Castelo and the Estancia de Santa Luzia overlooks the city. Built at the beginning of the century. XX (open to worship on August 22, 1926, but only ended in 1943) a good model of eclectic revivalist architecture, very much in vogue in the second half of the century. XIX transition to XX. A work by Viennese masters, it includes the risk of the architect Ventura Terra and the skillful chisel of Emídio Lima, being director of the work Miguel Nogueira, Ventura Terra's disciple. Majestic church, of centralized plant, of Byzantine inspiration, with the form of a square of 22m of width. Internally it is inscribed on a Greek cross. Unique nave with the main altar to the north and two side altars occupying each arm of the cross. The sacristy and support areas surround the main chapel in the shape of a semi-circle. The large diameter semi-circle is one of the most used geometric elements at this time, and in the case of Ventura Terra, remarkable in the spatial geometry of this temple-monument, and in the building of the Assembly of the Republic in Lisbon.
