This view is from above the rock glacier on the north side of Wheeler Peak in Great Basin National Park, Nevada. While taking an alternative descent down from Wheeler Peak, I followed this ridge down & stumbled upon this very distinct boulder w/ incredible fossil wave ripples in a limestone-type formation. These mountains are part of the Snake Range which has rocks comprised of limestone from sand, mud, & limey ooze, deposited at the bottom of a shallow sea during late Precambrian to Cambrian age (about 560 million years ago). Today this rock sits well above 11,000 feet above sea level.
