The State Capitol Building was built as a demonstration the Territory of Arizona was ready for statehood. It was first used in 1901. In 1918 and 1938 the original 40,000 square feet were increased to 123,000. The Legislature buildings to the north and south were constructed in 1960. The Capitol is on the National Register of Historic Places.
