Bielsko-Biala, The St Nicolas Cathedral
Poland

The cathedral was founded by Duke of Cieszyn Wacław I; it was built between 1443 and 1447 in gothic style. In 1559-1630 there was evangelical church. The Church was completely rebuilt by L. Bauer between 1909 and 1910. Since 1992 it has been the cathedral of Diocese Bielsko-Żywiecka. One art of the church is in gothic-baroque style and the other in neoromanism style with secessional elements (from the 20th century). The most precious elements are: portal with medallions of Apostles, figure of Saint Jadwiga (patron of the church), Saint Jan Nepomucen, stained-glass window, Chapel of St. Mary from Czestochowa from the 19th century. The interior was renovated in 2002.
