Photographers Notes:
We arrived in the area of Castle Hill the previous day to when this photo was taken, it was not exactly great photo weather, light grey clouds blanketed the sky and spits of rain where coming down. We made a quick tour around the area with no equipment to scope out the climbing and also to find a spot to take some panoramic photos. Back to the car we decided to get some lunch, this process always seems to take longer than expected... I’m really starting to think that my stove is some sort of time machine… During lunch we made some plans… Plan 1 was to abseil from the top of the highest boulder, plan 2 was to shoot a series of panoramic photos from various high points… Plan 2 would require some sort of climbing. By the time the time machine stove had finished cooking our lunch the weather had made a turn for the worse. Abseiling now didn’t quite look as fun and I seem to have developed some phobia for editing out water droplets that get onto my lens…. With both plans now on the back burner we looked for a plan to wait it out.
The following day the weather was bright and sunny, the first time we’ve seen a complete blue sky for weeks! I had hoped for an early morning series of photos from this area but things all happened a bit later than planned. Here you can see first of the winter snows has fallen on the mountain tops. I’m glad it’s getting close to winter. I’m really looking forward to more blue sky with low sun, things just look so much better when the shadows are a bit longer.
I also got to make my abseil from the top of the highest boulder… But the only climbing that was done, was to get up the boulders for the panoramas.
