This isolated Coast Guard lookout post was built as a radar monitoring station for shipping transiting the English Channel. With the arrival of GPS it became obsolete and was decommissioned. Today it serves as a holiday cottage.
Dungeness is a large headland jutting out into the English Channel from the Kent coast. The unique landscape of low-lying shingle is classified as a desert and is designated a Site of Special Scientific Interest. As if that wasn't surreal enough the area is peppered with dozens of small dwellings, lighthouses and a nuclear power station.
