The creation of the Cidade da Guarda and the concession of its Charter by D. Sancho I, on November 27, 1199, required the construction of a defensive system, which included the fortress and vast walls surrounding the medieval houses, palaces and churches. One of the monumental gates that has survived until today is this Ferreiros gate protected by an imposing tower.
