Mt. Fuji viewed from Gundari Shrine Motoyashiro peak
Tama

We can see Mt. Fuji, 50 km distance from here.  Unfortunately, it was not perfect condition on the day I came here, but we could see clearly the snow-covered Mt. fuji.  On the peak I took the photo (960 m above sea level), there is "Gundari-Shrine Motoyashiro". You can see a silver-colored "Tori-i", a symbol of Japanese Shrine, in the back.  I do not know the exact meaning of "Motoyashiro", but it might be the original place of the Shrine. Gundari Shrine is now located on the base of the mountain. Anyway, this is a great place to enjoy a nice view.

More About Tama

Tama area is the name of the western part of Tokyo Metropolis.  It consists of 26 cities, 3 towns and a village.  A lot of people (about 4 milion) live in a eastern half part of the area.  However, there are many mountains in the western part of Tama area, and there are very little flat land.  Many hiking spots are in the western area, so you can enjoy walking on the trail, camping, and so on.  If you see the beautiful mountain scene, you may not believe this is also in Tokyo.
