Sunset from Haselschacher Buck in Kaiserstuhl
Baden-Wuerttemberg

The Kaiserstuhl is an ancient volcano in the middle of the rhine valley. It has been covered with loess during ice age and has a very fertile soil - ideal for growing wine. However, the small hilltops in the middle are too dry for wine. In former times they where used to pasture sheep which created an ideal location for orchids - and for picnics watching the sunset.
