Nature Forest Reserve Grenzweg
Franconie

Forest reserve "Grenzweg" near Leinburg

The forest reserve  is located on the western edge of the Jura rise. There, in the southern part of the Nuernberg Reich Forest at the end of the last ice age has been deposited huge sand dunes that are now covered with pine trees, which grow very slowly because of the nutrient-and water-stressed conditions. At the bottom Heath, lingonberries, blueberries and rare mosses and lichens grow. With 113 ha this park is the largest non-alpine forest reserve in Bavaria.
