Spout floor of Jill Windmill
Brighton-Hove

The spout floor is the bottom floor of the rotating part of the mill and is where the ground meal is graded into flours and bran.

The miller operates the mill from this floor. He can start and stop the sweeps using the brake, change the speed of the sweeps by opening and closing the shutters, change the rate of flow of grain into the millstones as well as the gap between them.

Upon leaving the millstones, the wholegrain flour falls down spouts into waiting sacks.   The three spouts at the back of the mill collect the products emanating from the flour dresser.

Jill Windmill is a traditional working post mill located in the South Downs National Park in Sussex. She is maintained by volunteers and more info can be found on the website - http://www.jillwindmill.org.uk/
