St. Cuthbert's Island is a small tidal islet located close offshore from Lindisfarne (Holy Island) in Northumberland. It is reputed to be the place where Cuthbert first moved to live a life of solitude following his retirement in 676. As it was not remote enough he subsequently moved further offshore to Inner Farne where he died in 687.
Holy Island is where Christianity first arrived in England in 635 AD.
