Situated right at the river Oder's bank the historic main building of Wrocław's University today includes a museum with some remarkable architecture. Best known is the Leopoldine Hall, or Aula Leopoldina. It is one of the biggest profane halls of the Baroque period in Europe. The technical facilities suggest that this room is still in use on special occasions like University celebrations and classical concerts.
Being the historic capital and cultural center of Silesia, Wrocław (which can be pronounced like "Vrots'waf" and was formerly known as Breslau) also is the official 2016 European Capital of Culture.
