Baltic

The BALTIC Centre for Contemporary Art was concieved to be a ‘major new capital facilities for the Contemporary Visual Arts in Central Tyneside’ and opened on Saturday 13 July 2002.

Created out of the old Baltic Flour Mill and retaining its original facades, a new structure consisting of six main floors and three mezzanines was created. Offering 3000sqm of arts space along with artists' studios, cinema/lecture space, shop, a library and archive for the study of contemporary art and a Rooftop Restaurant.

BALTIC has no permanent collection but provides an ever-changing calendar of exhibitions and activities.
