Hoar Frost on Monument Field, Combe Down, Bath. VR

This image has been re-mastered for Virtual Reality using a suitable viewer.

Taken on a cold winter's morning, with hoar frost turning the landscape almost monochrome ,this is the walking route from Bath's Southern Skyline Walk, through the village of Widcombe, to the City. The humps in the picture are molehills.

Ralph Allen's house and landscape gardens, Prior Park are on the left.

It's called Monument field because Ralph Allen left his estate to Bishop Warburton, who was married to his neice. Warburton (gratefully?) erected a monument to his benefactor. Unfortunately, it was demolished in 1905.

Although it is owned by the Nation Trust, the field cannot be accessed from Prior Park Gardens.
