Fourmile Canyon charcoal kilns (exterior)
Nevada

Two abandoned charcoal kilns are found in Fourmile Canyon in the Hot Creek Range, Nevada.  A 4x4 road takes one to the site where the right kiln is well preserved with native flat stones while the left kiln is half-caved & is made from an inner layer of brick.  Charcoal kilns were used for remote mining to create coal from wood to fuel mills & smelters.
