Braga, Cathedral, sacristy

The mannerist sacristist built in 1698 by Archbishop D. Diogo de Sousa, marks the introduction of Baroque in northern Portugal.

At the beginning of the century. XIV, Archbishop D. João Martins de Soalhães built in this same place a chapel, dedicated to Saint Martin, where he was buried.

Later, in 1511, D. Diogo de Sousa decided to adapt it to Sacristy.

The project for a new sacristy, at this site, fell to Archbishop D.João de Sousa (1696-1703). The work was delivered to Pascoal Fernandes Mestre Pedreiro, Natural of Porto, also known for his work, in the Church of S.Victor (1691) and for the construction of the Cruise Lantern of the Sé (1713).
