This unassuming short section of road is named after Calum MacLeod, a local crofter and lighthouse keeper. Between 1964 and 1974 he single-handedly toiled to connect Arnish, at the northern tip of Raasay, to Brochel Castle, where the 19 miles of single track road from the ferry terminal at the south of the island ended. In 1982, the two miles of road he built was finally adopted by the council and surfaced with tarmac.

The Isle of Raasay, one of the smaller Inner Hebridean Islands, is sandwiched between the Isle of Skye and mainland Scotland. It has a population of around 160 residents.
