葫芦门：
充满古色古香的徽派民居建筑群，功能齐全、结构完美。据老人说，这座府第有“三多”：门阙多、巷弄多、马头墙多。门阙有瓶形、圆形、矩形、葫芦形等等，造型各异，诗意无穷。门阙多，据说是为了小姐躲避生人方便而置。为此，当地人便有了“二十四个门阙”的俗称。巷弄多，是受封建宗法尊卑节制，因为主人与仆人必须分道而行。随着历史的变迁，“胡宗宪尚书府"雅号鲜为人知，而“二十四个门阙”的俗称流传下来。
葫芦，是徽州民间崇奉的植物图腾，葫芦悬挂似袋，内有籽，徽州三雕中常见一长串大小葫芦，即寓意“子孙万代（袋）”。此外，葫芦门在这里还有一层含义：葫芦，胡芦也，主人自谦此乃胡家草芦（茅屋）是也。这把古徽州人做人低调、内敛、不张扬的性格体现出来。
