The Encanyissada lagoon is located between the municipal boundaries of the towns of Amposta and Sant Carles de la Ràpita. The laggon covers 879,23 Ha and is the biggest in the Delta. It has been declared a National Hunting Reserve. The lagoon's name derives from "canya", the Catalan word for cane, and refers to the thick cane beds wich surround this body of water. The cane beds provide an important refuge, nesting and feeding area for many species of birds.
There is a self-guided bicycle tour of the area which begins at "la Casa de Fusta".
