Portmeirion was designed and built by Sir Clough Williams-Ellis between 1925 and 1975 in the style of an Italian village.
The estuary and beach, Traeth Sands, featured strongly in The Prisoner as it was always seen as an escape route by Number 6 who was chased by helicopter, buggy and "Rover" (the ubiquitous sentry bubble) across the sands.
