Little Glass Mountain obsidian flow (aerial)[2]

Aerial view (about 400' high) overlooking the summit area of Little Glass Mountain in the Medicine Lake Volcano, California.  Having erupted about 1,000 years ago, the flow is quite recent & formidable to walk through.  It is just like Glass Mountain to the east, but this flow is much smaller, being about a square mile in size.  In isolated pockets there are trees that are making a foothold within the dacite (the obsidian outcroppings tend to be found along the edges of the flow).  Views of neighboring Little Mountain Hoffman, Pumice Stone Mountain, & distant Mount Shasta & Lassen Peak.
