The Kaiserstuhl, a small mountain range of volcanic origin, is a blessed region. Although located north of the alps in the middle of the Rhine valley, the climate is almost Mediterranean. And if the weather is fine somewhere in the upper Rhine valley, it is there.
The Badberg, on which this panorama was taken, is a chain of some small hills in the very center of Kaiserstuhl. They are too dry to grow vine as is done on the slopes of the surrounding hills. On the foot of Badberg there is a warm spring still bearing witness to the volcanic origin. About 2000 years ago, when the spring was much warmer, the romans used it for a bath house - hence the name.
