When boating the Colorado River during the winter months the days are short, the air is much cooler, and warmth is often at a premium. We try to land and make camp while there is still plenty of sunshine so we can see to set up camp, dry out, and warm up a bit before the sun goes down behind the high cliffs.
At Fossil Canyon Camp, we almost made it. The beach was beautifully lit by sunshine when we landed, but before we could get our gear unloaded, the sun seemed to vanish from deep in the canyon. With this panorama I managed to catch the last rays of sunshine on the cliffs across the river. Meanwhile, I was envious of the rocks and beaches down river which were still being bathed by the sun.
