Herd Peak fire lookout (interior)

View from the top of Herd Peak (elev. 7,071') in Klamath National Forest near Weed, California.  Mt. Shasta tops the southern skyline & the true summit is actually a bit north however this rocky outcropping has a fantastic view that this fire lookout was established here in 1933, now listed as a historic lookout.  The lookout is still manned every summer & this particular day we met Pamela from Dunsmuir who staffs this lookout five days a week while another individual named Bob does the other two days.  Pamela has been manning fire lookouts for 34 years & was very knowledgeable of the area, plus an entertaining storyteller.
