The second largest mosque built in Turkey during the Republic era after Ankara Kocatepe Mosque is located in Muğdat Neighborhood in Mersin. The structure, which is composed of prayer spaces, main dome, additional prayer spaces and a gathering place, and which reflects the classical Ottoman architecture, bears the characteristics of a social complex with its six minarets, conference hall, library, food bank, health care center and other units. The shrine of Hz. Miktad, one of the first believers of Islam and companions of prophet Muhammad, is also located in the inner court of the mosque.
