Here in the sub-choir were placed, in the century. XIX, two tombs: on the north side, Vasco da Gama; on the south side, Luís de Camões. The vault, above Vasco da Gama's tomb. Vasco da Gama (1468? -1524), discovered the sea route to India, a fundamental landmark in the History of Portugal and the world; Luís de Camões (1524? –1580) was the greatest Portuguese poet and one of the most important in European literature. N 'Os Lusíadas describes, in a heroic way, the maritime adventure of the Portuguese. The respective tombs depict some decorative elements referring to the life and deeds of these two characters in the History of Portugal.
