Gigapixel view from atop Kangaroo Mountain (elev. 6700') in the Red Buttes Wilderness near Seiad Valley, California. The mountain is prominent red due to its peridotite makeup, as is nearby craggy Red Butte. From here one can see north into Oregon w/ views of Grayback Mountain & the eastern Siskiyou Mountains, looking east towards Goosenest & Mt. Shasta, south towards Mt. Eddy, Boulder Peak, Black Marble Mountain, & Kings Castle, & a westward view towards Preston Peak, El Capitan, & other peaks within the Coast Mountains. This summit is easily accessed from the nearby Pacific Crest Trail which skirts below it to the south. Towards Red Butte in an impressive intrusion of white marble. Kangaroo Mountain is likely named after the kangaroo rat that has been documented in the region, though the landscape is red enough one could think they are in Australia.
