Kristiansand (formerly Christian Sand) is a town and municipality in Vest-Agder county, and is also the county's administrative center. The city is ranked as the fifth largest municipality in population of 80 748 inhabitants 1 July 2009). Kristiansand is bordered to the west to Søgne and Song valley in the north to Vennesla and Birkirkara, and in the east to Lillesand in Aust-Agder. The population is combined with the surrounding municipalities 123 153 The inter-municipal activities in the southern hub includes all of these municipalities, as well as Iveland.
