Carrizo Plain - Wallace Creek [2]

Wallace Creek is an intermittent stream located within Carrizo Plain National Monument, California.  This panorama was taken from directly above the famous San Andreas Fault.  This is the boundary between the Pacific Plate & the North American Plate (the side this panorama is on).  Several earthquakes over the past 3800 years (including the notable 1857 Ft. Tejon quake) have shifted the landscape, causing the stream channel of Wallace Creek to be diverted 100 meters to the northwest.  Similar effects have occurred on other nearby stream channels.
