Kutchan Festival - Potato Dance 2010

Taken on the last day of the 'Kutchan Jaga Matsuri' /Kutchan Town Potato Festival in english.

The potato is the local mascot for Kutchan town and the 2 day festival pays homage to the humble potato also know locally as  'Jaga Kun'.

Summer is the time for local festivals in towns throughout Hokkaido with each district celebrating their own local produce or Shinto divinities.

During the final parade of the festival young and old dance down the main street together in unison to the strains of the Kutchan town song whilst being cheered on by spectators.

Classic !
