Lassen Peak (10457'/3187m) summit

View from the summit of Lassen Peak (elev. 10,457'), the second highest peak of the Cascade Range in Northern California east of Redding.  It makes up Lassen Volcanic National Park w/ significant eruptions in May 1915.  The peak is a plug dome & a mere recent formation of the ancient Mount Tehama which had consister of other nearby peaks in the park that formed ancient crater walls.  The area is still geothermally active w/ popular visit areas including Bumpass Hell & Sulphur Works.  From this highest point, one can view the recent lava flows & a shallow crater.  Haze from forest fires in the Klamath Mountains (Gasquet Complex) to the west have greatly obscured the views down to a visibility of maybe 20 miles at most, usually the higher Mt. Shasta would be prominent to the northwest.
