Phrygian Rock Relief of Midas Town, Phrygia, Turkey

Midas Town is somewhere in the Anatolian lonelyness. There are just a few small villages around and the one next to it is Yazilikaya, that means "Rock with Inscriptions". The monument is from Phrygian times (around 700 BC), dedicated to the godess Kybele. The inscription in Phrygian alphabet mentions Mida. That's why it was thought that this is the grave of the famous Phrygian King Midas. Later researches discovered that Mida is another name of Kybele.
