Mono Lake Scenic Area Visitor Center Overlook

Mono Basin National Forest Scenic Area Visitor Center provides regional information to travelers visiting the Mono Basin Scenic Area in the Eastern Sierra and Yosemite National Park. Mono Lake is one to three million years old, one of the oldest North American lakes. The water of Mono Lake is saline containing many salts, lake supports algae, brine shrimp and alkali files. These nutrients provides for California Gulls and other breading birds. It is a major breeding ground and migratory bird and integral part of areas environment. Mono Lake Committee has been protecting this lake since 1979 from the the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power diversion of water.
