A huge cross in the centre of the high street in Müstair

The village of Müstair is the most eastern village in Switzerland with buildings alongside the historic route from Vinschgau in Southern Tyrol to Engadin. One building seems to be placed in the middle of this primary road so maybe the cross is needed to save the inhabitants from reckless drivers.

Müstair is well known for the cloister with the same name just a few hundred meters away from this spot. The village itself shows typical architecture common in this region of Switzerland. You will see a drastic change in architecture when you visit the neighbouring village on the other side of the border.

Romansh is the main language spoken here, that's why signs at this point close to the border to Italy are written in German and / or Rhaeto-Romance.
