The jump or Salto del Laja La Laja River, is a cascading river of La Laja, located in the VIII Region of Santiago (Chile). It is located 25 km north of Los Angeles.
El Salto is comprised of four spectacular Laja River Falls, between 40 and 55 m in height. Upstream from the falls the river is quiet and very low and can be easily forded, and downstream is reduced to a deep, narrow canyon about 4 km long and 20 m wide. From there goes another 29 miles before its waters provide the Bio Bio river.
The surrounding landscape consists of steppe-like vegetation with species of Boldo, hawthorn, Quillaja, and trees such as poplars, willows, eucalyptus and others.
El Salto is one of the great tourist attractions for travelers of Route CH-5. Formerly it was possible to see the falls from the same road, the bridge over the Rio de la Laja, but after the granting of the path to the Autopista del Bosque SA company, it became a game in that stretch, and now must pay a toll to visit the place. In Falls there are a number of tourist services such as hotels, campsites, restaurants, picnic areas, crafts.
