Zwirko & Wigura Square (Plac Żwirki i Wigury) is one of the most favourite places to rest for inhabitants of Ruda, a district of the city Ruda Śląska, because there is a peaceful park with many spieces of trees, for example maples, yew trees and even a magnolia, which is very beautiful in the spring, when it is in bloom.
In addition, in the central area of this park there is a basin with an interesting modernistic sculpture.
Nearby the basin there is also a pre-war street lamp. During World War II it served the Nazi invaders as a gallows by execution of Joachim Achtelik, a Polish patriot and fighter for Polishness of Silesia. It happened in February 1942.
After the war, this lamp was left as a monument commemorating that tragic event. On this panorama, it is visible opposite the basin sculpture.
