Sacramento LDS Temple, Rancho Cordova, California USA
Completed and dedicated in 2006, the Sacramento Temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints overlooks Lake Natoma on the eastern edge of the city of Rancho Cordova, California, twenty miles east of Sacramento. The 19,500 square foot building is finished in light gray granite from Fuzhou, China and is built in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada Mountains. Surrounded by oak trees, the Temple is built on a 47 acres parcel that is also home to one of the Church’s meetinghouses and has provisions for sand volleyball, picnics, camping, and other activities. The Sacramento Temple is the seventh Temple built by the Church in California. The spire of the Temple is 131 feet high and is capped by a gilded statue of the Angel Moroni and prophet from the Book of Mormon, the Church’s scriptures. In the LDS Church Temples are not ordinary meeting houses, but places for sacred ordinances.
