Croisée du transept de l'église de Savigny - France

L'église Notre-Dame de Savigny fut donnée en 1165 par Geoffroy de Brucourt à la collégiale de Sainte-Barbe-en-Auge, qui possédait déjà à Savigny un prieuré fondé en 1107, installé un peu à l'écart de l'église paroissiale. Le sanctuaire aurait donc était dédié en 1128 par un personnage nommé Turchetillus ou Toruldus d'après le reste d'une inscription mutilée. On sait d'ailleurs que le premier prieur du prieuré Sainte-Barbe de Savigny se nommait Turoldus.

Un important décor peint a été remis au jour en 1888 et en 1893 par l'abbé Joubin et restauré par un certain Jacquier. Un premier cycle consacré à sainte Barbe occupe les arcades de l'abside. Un second cycle représentant la Cène, est peint sur le mur nord de la nef. Ces deux ensembles datent du 14e siècle.

Elle abrite également un bas-relief en calcaire du Christ en majesté du 12e siècle, classé monument historique à titre d'objet en 1955, et une sainte Barbe d'1,14 mètre sculptée dans le calcaire au 16e siècle, classée depuis 1905.
