Annual trip to Tokyo, Aug-Sep 2011. A morning dash to Seiseki Sakuragaoka chasing after a single theme: locations depicted in Whisper of the Heart (Mimi o Sumaseba 耳をすませば), a 1995 Ghibli anime movie - one of my all-time Ghibli favourites.
Shown in the photo is a winding uphill road named Irohazaka. In the movie a local city library is situated around here (but in reality there isn't) -- and so the road makes an appearance a number of times in the movie as Shizuku likes to go to the library often. As in the movie, there are several flights of stairs in the vicinity, offering pedestrians a shortcut through the area.

Tama area is the name of the western part of Tokyo Metropolis. It consists of 26 cities, 3 towns and a village. A lot of people (about 4 milion) live in a eastern half part of the area. However, there are many mountains in the western part of Tama area, and there are very little flat land. Many hiking spots are in the western area, so you can enjoy walking on the trail, camping, and so on. If you see the beautiful mountain scene, you may not believe this is also in Tokyo.
