Chimney Crater lava flow

Overlooking the Chimney Crater lava flow south of Medicine Lake, California near Snag Hill.  Around 12,500 years ago, lava was erupting from Giant Crater, Chimney Crater, & Double Hole Crater just to the north.  The Giant Crater lava flow can be traced for nearly 40 miles.  This lava flow from Chimney Crater covered an older flow from Giant Crater.
