Sonepur Mela, Washing Elephants
India

The Sonepur Mela is organized every year in the Hindu month of Kartik (November). The mela (fair) is held on the embankment of The River Ganga and Gandak at Sonepur.

This mela is billed as one of the worlds largest cattle fairs. This may be true for the crowds of people it attracts, but there really is not that many animals.

This year 2009 there where 50 elephants for sale, here are some of being washed in the early morning along the River Ganga.
