Timber Mountain fire lookout

The Timber Mountain fire lookout is located near Tionesta, California at 5,090 feet elevation & consists of a 30 foot steel structure built in 1966, replacing the old fire lookout that burned down earlier.  Climbing up atop amidst the high wind I met a nice lady named Susan who was manning the lookout as a contractor for a few more days as she panned the landscape every 20 minutes for any signs of new fires.  Around 2:30pm every day she had to listen to generate radio reports & write numbers relating to fires & air quality.  The view was quite clear other than haze from fires along the California coast burning northwards into Oregon.  From here one can see the Medicine Lake Volcano to the west, the Klamath Basin to the north & the expanse of Modoc National Forest to the east & south.
