Big Cave (interior)[1]

A view inside the east end of Big Cave near Fall River Mills, California.  This lava tube is accessed through a deep collapsed sink & has high ceilings w/ a small crawlway hole to access this section of the cave.  It is primarily all breakdown, going only a couple hundred feet in either direction.  The cave (as well as nearby Popcorn Cave) were more popular in past decades however access to them has been left unmarked & overgrown in a buckbrush/ghost pine setting.  Both caves have abundant coralloids.  Big Cave has a couple ferns at the entrance & frogs can be found at the entrance as well as here at the far end in the darkness.  There is some light due to a hornito skylight directly above, one frog is seen amidst the trash cans surviving on gnats that fly about.  A dead bat is seen leaning against the bottom of the ladder.
