The road from Hwy 389 to the Toroweap overlook leads through the western side of the Tuweep valley. The Tuweep valley is very beautiful and different from most other valleys around. A long time ago, this was a steep side canyon leading into the colorado river canyon, but a volcanic eruption filled the side-canyon with lava creating the broad and shallow valley we see today.
