View from the Waterloo monument, New Abbey

This granite tower was erected in 1816 to honour British, Belgian and Prussian soldiers who under Wellington and Blucher defeated Napoleon at the decisive Battle of Waterloo.

At 150ft high, and standing high on a hilltop, it overlooks the village of New Abbey, with the ruins of Sweetheart Abbey, and out towards the Solway Firth.
