The remains of Whitby Abbey dominate the picturesque Yorkshire seaside town of Whitby. Located high up on an exposed headland, the 13th century abbey church was a victim of the Dissolution of the Monasteries and has since weathered centuries of storms, and German naval shelling during WWI, to become one of the most popular ‘romantic ruins’ in the UK.
The impressive ruins inspired Bram Stoker's gothic tale of 'Dracula' which has led to Whitby becoming the ‘Goth’ capital of Britain.
