In 1833 the collection of the Natural History Society Zurich founded in 1746 was integrated in the University of Zurich.
Thanks to its modern form of exhibition, the Zoological Museum in recent decades has become one of the most visited museums of Zurich.
Its scientific collections include inter alia about 800 mammals, 3`300 birds, 1`900 reptiles and amphibians and 3,000 species of insects and a collection of molluscs.
About 1,000 animals can be marveled at life-size. Particularly interesting is that the prepared animals, such as the birds are presented in their former habitats.
Visiting the museum is like a travel around the world to explore the animals of every continent.
