This well-preserved 12th century Round Tower sits on a hill above the village of Ardmore in County Waterford. The site also has the ruins of an 8th century oratory and a 13th century cathedral, both dedicated to St. Declan who founded a monastery there in the 5th century.
Round Towers had several purposes, one of which was as a defendable place to hide valuable books and treasures when the monastery came under threat of attack.
