Brig is a town situated in the Rhône Valley in sunny Upper Valais, at the foot of the Simplon Pass, one of the most beautiful alpine passes in Switzerland. It is a charming city with its historic center with its imposing houses, inns and cozy hotels, and the Stockalper Palace is one of the most important baroque palaces in Switzerland. Brig is an ideal starting point for excursions. It is close to hiking and skiing regions in Lötschberg and Simplon, and Aletsch. It also has its own thermal baths, making it an attractive holiday resort. Brig is an attractive mid-sized town in Valais, and a perfect starting point for an excursion to Saas-Fee, or Zermatt, the Upper Rhône Valley and even Bern for example. It is also along the route of the famous Glacier Express, which connects Zermatt to St. Moritz. To the south, Brig is the border town that connects Italy through the Simplon railway tunnel, with Domodossola being the closest town. To the east, there is the Goms region, and the Furka Pass that leads to central Switzerland; the Grimsel Pass for the Bernese Oberland, and the Nufenen Pass for Ticino. It is less than 2 hours by train from Milan, Italy. Brig is an important rail connection.
